The NSYO was first formed in 1983 as a community-based organisation run by parent volunteers. Based in Beecroft in Northern Sydney, the NSYO is comprised of Strings & Sinfonia, the Wind Ensemble  and the Symphony Orchestra. We support more than 160 talented young musicians aged 5 to 25 years to develop musical and orchestral skills, and to experience the thrill of playing in live concerts.

NSYO plays concerts at venues such as theatres, school theatres, churches, outdoor festivals and has started to play a regular end-of-year concert at the Conservatorium of Music.

One of the highlights of being part of the NSYO is the opportunity to play at community events such as ANZAC day events, outdoor festivals,  movie premieres and kids' concerts.

Parent volunteers remain essential to running the NSYO, with all families contributing to concert planning, running the management committee, rehearsal support and supervision, social events and special workshops for our young musicians.

We welcome all interested players to join us for an upcoming concert to hear us play, contact us, or to jump right in and apply to audition.
